Electives Descriptions

    • Advanced Art (8th Only) – You will do drawing using pencil, charcoal, and soft pastels. There will be lots of painting using watercolors and acrylics. You’ll make sculptures, collages, soap carvings, and paper mache. You will also be able to participate in the Art Club. 
    • Intermediate Art (7th Only) – You will do drawing using pencil, charcoal, and soft pastels. There will be lots of painting using watercolors and acrylics. You’ll make sculptures, collages, soap carvings, and paper mache. You will also be able to participate in the Art Club.
  • You must have been in band last year. If a student is enrolling from another school past October 1, the student can only be in band if he/she had it at his/her previous school. He or she may choose to take a beginning band during his/her seventh grade year.

  • To be in 7th Bandyou must have had beginning band in sixth grade. However, if you did not attend or complete 6th grade band, you can enroll in a beginning band (see below). If a student is enrolling from another school past October 1, the student can only be in 7th Band if the student was enrolled in band at their previous school. If not, the student may choose to take a Beginning Band during their seventh grade year.

    In Beginning Band, you will learn how to play an instrument that the band instructors think will best suit you. We would like every student that wants to be in band to have the opportunity. If you can’t purchase an instrument at this time, the school has a limited supply of instruments that can be loaned on a first come first serve basis. You will need to contact Mr. Marsh concerning this matter.

    *If you enroll in a band, plan to be in that class all year because it may not be possible to make changes once schedules are completed.*

  • To be in athletics, you must get a signature from a coach. You will not only be competing against other schools, but also each other for starting positions on the teams. At times coaches can be VERY HARD on athletes because they expect players to do their very best at all times. You may not always get to start, or even get a suit. If any of these things bother you, you need to take P.E..

  • Each semester class will participate in a concert. This is an Advanced music class. You will have opportunities to compete in choir competitions, You will have an opportunity to sing, play instruments, move to music, listen and analyze, learn musical notation, create, and perform.

  • Students will learn basic Web Design, Coding, and Media skills. Students in this class will also help design the school's yearbook.

  • You will gain applicable everyday life skills. An example will be practice using communication, time management, and money management skills. Also, students will learn how to cook and sew. You will be eligible to participate in the FCCLA organization.

  • This course is an introductory course designed to expose students to different facets of FFA and the agriculture industry. Students will gain knowledge in animal science, plant science, leadership skills, public speaking, agricultural mechanics, and other FFA opportunities. 

  • Non-competitive sports, calisthenics and performance of other athletic games everyone in the class can participate in. You will be expected to “dress out” every day, so you will need to bring a change of school appropriate athletic wear/workout clothes to school each day. You will sweat!

    • 8TH GRADE: Flight & Space - Students explore the science behind aeronautics and use their knowledge to design, build, and test multiple flying apparatuses. Robotics/Automation - Students trace the history, development, and influence of automation and robotics as they learn about mechanical systems, energy transfer, machine automation,and computer control systems. Students use the VEX Robotics platform to design, build, and program real-world objects such as traffic lights, toll booths, and robotic arms.
    • 7TH GRADE: Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy. Students also learn how to model parts with 3D modeling software and some of their designs can also be printed using 3D printers. If you join T.S.A., you can enter competitions that include bridges, towers, and race cars. CAREERS = CONSIDERING THEIR INTERESTS, EVALUATING STRENGTHS, THINKING AHEAD TO SET GOALS
  • Students will straighten and check out books in the library. They will also help in the office when needed.
