Pansy Kidd Middle School

PKMS Reading Club
Sponsor: Cindy Hall

The purpose of the PKMS Reading Club is to promote the pleasure of literacy, to allow students to take part in a school sponsored club, and to have an active role as a student at Pansy Kidd Middle School. Membership is open to all PKMS students with 6th grade lunch.

Reading Club activities include bi-monthly meetings, book projects, decorating at the public library, and promoting activities for Read Across America Week. On short field trips, we have read to the residents at The Oaks, as well as to children at Poteau Primary. Reading Club's major project is donating book baskets to local organizations, such as Grace Cottage, Women's Crisis Center, EOMC Pediatrics, and Leflore County Youth Services.

During the year, the Reading Club raises funds for the book baskets. In the spring, a field trip to Books-a-Million is taken to select books for this community service project.
